Almost one month to the date after Miss Elizabeth's untimely and still unexplained death, another wrestling legend--and icon of the 1980's WWF product--has passed away. "Classy" Freddy Blassie was 85.
Ironically, in Blassie wonderful book, "Listen, You Pencil Neck Geeks!"--released only a few weeks prior to his death--in the intro, Vince McMahon, almost eerily, acknowledged that Blassie's time on earth was nearing an end.
For the 80's generation, we remember Blassie as a crusty, daperly attired manager. Years before "Ass Clowns" and "The Toughest SOB," we had "Pencil Neck Geeks." Not too harsh by today's standards but, for the time, effective. We probably wouldn't have any "clowns" without the "geeks."
If you truly love wrestling, Blassie's book is a must-read. Check out "My Breakfast with Blassie" if you want to see a work perpetrated on the film industry.
