The "Futurama" gang goes to the movies...
In the lobby, we see allusions to "Star Wars" and "Planet of the Apes." Before the film, an old fashioned, black-and-white newsreel airs, ending with an Ultimate Robot Fighting highlight featuring The Masked Unit defeating Gorgeous Gorg.
The film (rated M-14, "Not suitable for Aliens from M-14") starts and Bender starts harassing the robot sitting in front of him. Finally, the robot retaliates by standing up and transforming into The Masked Unit. A brawl ensues and an old lady yells, "Let's all go to the lobby!" But the Unit slips on some popcorn butter and everyone thinks Bender beat the massive Unit ... a promoter approaches Bender and asks him to be a robot fighter.
Back at Planet Express, the gang convinces Bender to cancel the deal. Bender claims that "crippling pain" is not covered by his "insurance fraud." But Leela convinces him to fight, citing how her Kung-Fu instructor, Snog (an alien), belittled her as a youth. Leela trains Bender...
At the match, Leela is in Bender's corner. Bender (billed from "Mom's Friendly Robot Factory") is facing Clean Cutter (from "Made in Parts Unknown") who has a lumberjack gimmick. Bender takes a beating including an axe in the back. Leela says, "You can;t quit everytime you get an axe in your back ... or a drill in your head." When Bender starts rubbing his back wound, Leela admonishes, "quit scratching your axe hole and get out there!"
Bender accidentally kicks Clean Cutter, leading to the victory. In the locker room, Bender is excited because he thinks he "took a life." The promoter comes in and congratulates Bender on making their "scam" look real. Clean Cutter walks in and waves at Bender. Bender is upset because the fights are fixed and because he really didn't take a life.
Bender's name is now, "Bender the Offender." Catch phrase--"I'm just an ex-con trying to go straight and get my kids back."
He faces a string of opponents ... Billionaire Bot ... The Foreigner ("Look at my crazy passport") and "The Chain Smoker." A "Bender 3:16" sign is shown.
Bender the Offender fires Leela as his trainer but keeps his "floozies." He pushes "fighting these two bimbos in mud" to the promoter then clarifies that it would be "fighting in the conventional sense." The promoter claims that Bender's popularity is slipping (and is shown in the drop-off of sales in Bender's soap on a rope). Not only will Bender drop the title but he'll be turned into a heel ... "The Gender Bender." Bender is given a pink tutu (with "Gender Bender" on the front) and is introduced to his predecessor, Destructor, who burts through the wall. Bender is threatened to do the job. Cut to Bender who is in the tutu ... "See you at the fight," he squeaks.
Back at Planet Express, Fry is upset because he "thought robot fighting was real like pro wrestling, not fake like boxing."
A TV commercial airs, showing Bender the Offender on the moon, in front of an American Flag a la Superman. The announcer claims that "you'll hate him as The Gender Bender." We see Bender (in his tutu and a yellow, curly wig) laying on a pink bed talking on the phone. "I'm a toughie," he says ... the announcer says that Bender will "threated your sexuality." We hear from the challenger, Destructo, with his manager, Snog. When Leela sees Snog, she once again becomes Bender's trainer.
At the match, Rich Little and George Foreman are on commentary. Bender is announced as a "confused young robot," while Richard Nixon's head shouts, "Get that hippie out of the ring!"
Bender gets thrashed by the giant Destructo ... Leela finds Snog under the ring and discovers that he is controlling Destructo. Leela beats Snog but Destructo falls on The Gender Bender causing the ref to count three.
After the match, the gang is helping Bender, who has been flattened in the ring. The promoter thanks Bender for "making it look half real," and gives him his pay--a coupon to a bath and body store.
George Foreman says he liked how Bender looked in his tutu...
