Hulkamania 6
Drop Kickin' It Old School Review
[5/3/03]
By: Jake Butikas

An unexpectedly decent video rental ... from Coliseum Video, 1991.

Tape starts with classic commercials for wave two of the WWF Hasbro figures. Commercials features Roddy Piper getting Rowdy with some figures.

Hosted by Sean Mooney from the old All-American Wrestling set ... the background appears to have every piece of Hulk Hogan merchandise ever produced.

--The Undertaker vs Hogan: This was very early in the 'Taker's career and before their series of matches in the Winter of 1991. The announcers tell us that UT is still undefeated. Truly, the old classic world title is what a world title should look like. Taker attcks Hogan before the bell and uses the belt. This match is mostly the Taker. Hogan comes back but UT no-sells an atomic drop and Hulk goes down again. Halfway through the match, Hogan gets bloody and UT hits an awesome tombstone and covers him "old school" style. 1-2-Hulk-up. Hogan dominates for a few but UT no-sells the big boot. Hogan goes after Paul Bearer, UT charges, Hogan moves. UT collides with Bearer and Hogan rolls-up UT for the pin. UT is no longer undefeated.

--Macho Man, Hogan and Beefcake work out with Mean Gene. Liftin' weights, brother.

--Re-cap of the Savage-Hogan feud followed by Hogan vs. Savage from Paris, France. They showed a few matches from this tour on Prime Time Wrestling, back in the day. An awesome set-up with a pipe-like walkway and pyro, which was unique for that time period. Hogan has Miss Elizabeth (RIP) at his side and Macho has Sherri. A typical match for these two but damn entertaining. Liz gets involved at the end followed by the leg drop and the win for Hogan. Liz and Sherri brawl briefly and then Hogan gives Macho and Martel the "double noggin' knocker!"

--A look at "Suburban Commando." Blah.

--Hogan vs. "Cowboy" Stan Hanson: what a shock to see this match on a WWF tape. Keep in mind that this was during a time when the WWF never acknowledged any wrestlers outside the Fed. But of course, they had to give Hanson a "gimmick" name in "The Cowboy." Guess "The Lariat" wasn't good enough. The commentary is of course voice-overs but the match is clear and complete, unlike the edited versions floating around. Hanson goes after fans on the way to the ring and runs right through the ring announcer (who announces him as "The Lariat" not "The Cowboy"). A technical match quickly turns into a brawl. Even the announcers admit that Hogan's style is different for this match. Not the typical Hogan match. A bloody brawl that leads into the crowd multiple times with chairshots, table slams and all-around stiff-shots. Hogan and Hanson bleed hard. Lord Alfred Hayes keeps referring to Hanson as the crowd's "idol" ... one time, mere moments after Hanson tries to hit a group of fans. Definately a different style for Hogan. Why this match wasn't included on the recent Hogan DVD is beyond me. One of the best Hogan matches you'll see. Hulk wins with a clothesline out of nowehere. Great.

--A look at Hogan's childhood home movies.

--Hogan vs. Bundy from WM2. This match seems out of place here.

--Hogan visits the troops from Desert Storm.

--Hogan vs. General Adnan: very short as Sgt. Slaughter interefers ...

--Hogan vs. Slaughter from WM7

--Hogan & Hacksaw Duggan vs Col. Mustapha & Slaughter: the faces win, of course. After all, it's Hogan's tape.

After the Hanson-Hogan match, the tape kind of goes down hill. Furthermore, the back of the box showed photos from a non-Wrestlemania match between Hogan and the Sarge. More than likely from one of their post-WM Bootcamp matches. Unfortunately, this was not the match shown. But overall, this tape is very enjoyable, especially the 1st three matches.
