What wrestling fan of the 1980's didn't have a crush on Miss Elizabeth?
While the moniker, "The 1st Lady of Wrestling," may have been a tad exaggerated, Liz did have a profound impact on women's roles in wrestling. Not only was she the first mainstream wrestling sex symbol, but she broke the stereotypical concept of what a woman in wrestling should look like.
And while Liz's photos and involvement seems extremely tame by today's extreme standards, it was--at the time--innovative. Who doesn't remember Liz removing her yellow skirt at SummerSlam '88, distracting the heels and allowing Hogan and Savage to score the pin. Again ... pretty tame in comparison to the current product. But pretty special for the time.
Unfortunately, not many acknowledge Liz's contributions.
After being a valet for Randy Savage, Liz worked briefly with both Dusty Rhodes and Hulk Hogan before returning to Savage's side at Wrestlemania 7. The couple then "married" at SummerSlam 91 only to have Jake Roberts and The Undertaker ruin the reception. Liz was briefly used in the Savage-Robertys feud and became a pivotal part of Savage's feud and eventual world title win from Ric Flair at Wrestlemania 8.
After Savage lost the strap to to Flair, Liz vanished only to re-appear in WCW where she managed Ric Flair. Liz waffled in-and-out of WCW story lines, feuding with Savage, joining the nWo, accusing Goldberg of "rape" in an thankfully abandoned angle and finally, managing Lex Luger and Sting.
Truly, in the realm of wrestling relationships, Liz's involvement with Randy Savage as well as Lex Luger were controversial aspects of a career in wrestling that involved only one actual wrestling match.
It was during Liz's final stint in WCW that some felt she was at her most beautiful.
"Miss Elizabeth" was 43.
