"In the Pit With Piper: Roddy Gets Rowdy" By Roddy Piper w/Robert Picarello ... published Nov. 2002.

Unlike other recent wrestling publications, I was anticipating this book as a great read. I have to admit that, this time around, I wasn't disappointed.

Like Bobby Heenan's book, "Bobby the Brain", this book is written as if Piper himself were speaking. That's what made Mick Foley's books wonderful reads ... and on the same hand, that's what made books by Moolah and Chyna extremely bad. There has to be a proverbial happy medium--and it definately works with Piper's book.

The language aned voice and natural, which in turn, makes for an enjoyable read.

However, the only problem I had with this book was the length. At 237 pages, it could have obviously been longer.

Shortly after purchasing this book, I skimmed through the chapters before reading. When I noticed that Piper discusses winning the WWF Intercontinental title in the last chapter, I had a strong feeling that some thing were going to be omitted. And I was right.

Piper discusses his days in WCW in approximately two pages. Furthermore, other topics never mentioned ... his feud with Rick Rude, the controversial angle with Bad News Brown, what lead Piper to WCW, any and all WCW angles and events, and Owen Hart's tragic death.

It is interesting when Piper details how he systematically survived doing jobs during his WWF tenure ... with Bret being the only person he was willing to put-over. However ... when reading this, I couldn't help but think that--somewhere deep within my tape collection--is a MSG broadcast where Ric Flair pins Piper. (Piper's unique WWF feud with Flair, as well as the angle where Flair attacked Piper on Superstars was also omitted.)

Overall, this book is definately worth reading. The stories are funny and quick- moving. Piper seems to be genuine and honest, however, (as stated on the cover) "...not authorized or affiliated with the WWE."
