Thinking about the current trend in not only wrestling content but commentary by the announcers ... it hit me that there are certain aspects of today's product that, as an announcer, the late Gordon Solie wouldn't have said. (You could also place the late Gorilla Monsoon in this equation.)
A list of 10 follows:
(10) "Brand" ... back in the day, there were organizations, not brands. And each organization had a world champ! How 'bout that one?
(9) "The Big Valbowski" ... possibly Test and Val should team up. They have similar catch-phrases plus they look almost identical. (Why does the WWE fear individuality?)
(8) "Butt-Bump" ... the rarely verbalized move in Goldust's arsenal. Undoubtedly, Solie would have indicated this move as "a posterior take-down Runnels..."
(7) "Bubba's got wood" ... very doubtful that the late Solie would have acknolweged this action.
(6) "Puppies" ... did Solie ever make comments regarding Woman's anatomy?
(5) "WWE" ... well, it sounds funny when anyone says it...
(4) "HLA" ... can you imagine Solie's dignified voice explaining to the audience exactly what "HLA" means?
(3) "Testicals" ... a team between Val and Test would be impossible being that they are on different (ahem) brands. Regardless ... A Solie rendition of Test's new fan base would prove interesting.
(2) "Suplex" ... that's because it's pronounced "su-play."
(1) "Necrophilia" ... Solie announcing during the Triple H - Katie Vick segment would have been a sorrowful day. However, on a side note, I'm still waiting for the release of the Jakks "Triple H Necrophilia" box set...
