WWE Unforgiven 2002
DVD Review
[4/5/03]

From September 2002 ... WWE Unforgiven

Not only was this a drab PPV, but the DVD itself is lackluster with few bonuses and awkward chapters.

The matches...

Kane, Booker, Goldust & Buh Buh Dudley vs. The Un-Americans: Truly, the Un-Americans was a good gimmick that, like most today, ran way too short. Back in the late 80's, they would have let the Un-Americans run 6-9 months. Anyway, this was the best match on the card. Major heat for the Un-Americans ... the finish shows Kane getting the pin with a chokeslam.

Chris Jericho (IC champ) vs. Ric Flair: Wonder how many bandwagons fans have never heard of the IC belt? This match was a big disappointment. Unlike their prior match, this match wasn't impressive. During the intros, we're told that Flair put over rico on a recent RAW ... a fact that should be never spoken in public. Jericho fakes a leg injury caysing Flair and the ref to call for a trainer. In the meantime, Jericho sneaks up behind Flair and puts him in the Walls of Jericho ... Flair taps out. Bad finish that did not seem fair to Flair.

Edge vs. Eddy Guerrero: a decent match with a great finish ... Eddy's sunset flip off the top into a powerbomb puts Edge down for the 1-2-3.

Billy & Chuck vs 3 Minute Warning: Again, these two teams are both examples of rushed angles and gimmicks. Back in September 2002, B&C had a media blitz regarding their "marriage" and 3 Minute Warning were being pushed as an unstoppable force. After this match, B&C faded away and a few months later, 3 Minute Warning are putting over Maven. Anyway ... we see highlights of B&C's fame regarding the wedding. But alas, not the greatest tag match in teh world. 3 Minute Warning get the pin and Stephanie will have to perform HLA later on...

Triple H vs RVD: A good match, mainly because of RVD. Earlier Triple H confronted Flair about being a loser so when Flair runs down, we expect him to side with RVD. What a swerve ... Flair hits RVD with Hunter's sledgehammer and "Haitch" retains.

Molly vs. Trish: Trish wins the Women's belt after a bulldog. Typical match-up for them with some good submission spots.

Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar: The 2nd best match on the show. This match had good build-up ... chairshot fans will admire the steel chair action ... the DQ end gets some major heat from the crowd. Afterwards, UT tosses Brock through the Unforgiven sign at the top of the ramp.

Other notes: the HLA segment with Steph, Bischoff and Rikishi was bad. Anyone could tell that the "fat lady" was Rikishi. Bischoff gets a long stink-face to close ... then Steph and 'Kish dance...

DVD features ... a couple of post-match promos ... these would be better if they were longer than 15 seconds each ... Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo from Heat was a good match ... UT, RVD and Benoit vignettes--we have seen these before.

The music was from the "XXX" soundtrack ... depressing, whiny music that grates at your nerves everytime you change screens and it re-starts. They need to reformulate the lay-out of these DVDs as, if someone actually liked this music, they probably would hate it after having to hear it repeatedly.
