Drop Kickin' It Old School Review
[11/1/02]

This tape, produced in 1987 by "Dusty Woods Entertainment," contains matches which are, unfortunately, anything but "grueling," "incredible," or "amazing" as the video box proclaims. Actually, it's pretty boring.

And while these matches are typical of the late 1980's old-school-style, at the time, to viewers, these matches probably seemed similar to those on Prime Time Wrestling. But even then, that comparison is stretching it...

None of these matches can live up to the "Incredible Amazing Non-Stop Action!" advertised on the box, however one match in particular stands out amongst the rest. And no, this match does not stand out because it is a 5-star epic ... it stands out because it is so God-awful bad. This match features the late Dick Murdoch challenging Antoni Inoki ... and while Gordon Solie attempts to give credit to this confrontation by talking about the past battles between Murdoch and Inkoki, nothing can save this match. Not even the legendary anouncing of Solie. And while paragraphs could be written about this terrible match, one spot stands out--after receiving a kick to the head, Murdoch's delayed-reaction flip was actually funny considering the lapse in time between kick-and-flip.

It is often said that Japanese wrestling audiences are quiet and reserved in respect to the action they are observing; in the case of this tape, they were probably silent because they were, plain and simply, bored.
