The start of the tape features Brutus "The Barber" Beedfcake warning viewers to "Be a survivor, don't smoke!"
We are reminded that SummerSlam will be available on video 9/19/89.
In a hokey motif, Sean Mooney and Brother Love host a party celebrating the release of 20 volumes of "The Best of..." tapes.
--Brutus Beefcake vs. Bad News Brown : What's Brutus going to cut here? Bad News' beard? Bad News blocks the sleepr then gets on the mic and claims he's going to do some cutting of his own. Brown gets the scissors and is arguing with the ref when Bruti sneaks up from behind and cradles Bad News for the 3-count. A rare loss for Brown.
--Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs King Haku: From WWF Superstars, Duggan beats Haku for the title of "WWF King." Duggan hits the running clothesline for the win with Vince McMahon and Jesse Venture on commentary. Heenan acts great when Haku loses--storming off with the royal robe and crown.
--Duggan-King Corination. Duggan receives his corwn as the WWF face locker room gathers around. All babyfaces that is, excluding Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts, Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior. Mean Gene reads the Royal Proclimation as Heenan, Andre and Haku look on from the back and vow revenge. Ventura, in a quote full of irnoy, states, "I think taxes are going to go up now."
--Battle Royal ... final four in the ring; Bret Hart, Tito Santana, Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig and Rick Martel. Hart and Tito and Martel and Perfect form alliances. Perfect throws out Tito ... Tito remains at ringside and helps eliminate Martel ... Bret hits Hennig with a wikced clothesline to sned him over ...
--The Hart Foundation vs. The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers w/Jimmy Hart with Brother Love as the special guest referee. Love, in the prime of his character, looks funny as ref in white suspenders. Typical ... as the heel, Love favors the Rougeaus, giving the Harts fast counts, etc. Great stuff actually. Bret has Raymond covered when Love quits counting before "three" to slither over to the camera and bellow, "I love you!" Funny. Moments later, Ray rolls up Bret and Love makes the 1-2-3 ... the announcers say it was fast and Lord Alfred Hayes calls it a "travesty of justice" ... however, the 3-count actually seemed normal. The Harts attack Love after the match and nail him with the "Hart Attack."
--Hulk Hogan vs Rick Rude w/Heenan for the WWF Title. The only time in history that we are able to see a battle between these two. Rude was in his prime ... still amazing that he is deceased. Heenan announces that Rude is National and International Arm Wrestling Champ and challenges Hogan to an arm wrestling match. Poor Rude ... of course, he has to put over Hogan twice ... once in arm wrestling and later by pinfall. The finish has Rude thinking he won the title via submission in a backbreaker. Moments later, he comes off the top with a fist that jolts Hogan awake. Hogan "Hulks-up" and the rest is history. Leg drop ... 1-2-3.
The tape concludes with Brother Love hitting Mooney with a cake and Tony Sciavone making an appearance. Sciavone tries to act ... but oh well.
